DUNWOODY, Ga. - Dunwoody police are investigating a series of thefts in which criminals are stealing copper from air conditioning units. In one shopping center alone, 12 businesses were targeted in the span of a week. Now, homeowners and business owners are looking for ways to protect their air conditioners.
A company called AC Armor installs cages designed to stop thieves from getting into air conditioners and taking valuable copper components. The company says it has seen a 200 percent increase in sales in the last three years.
According to the company, the cage provides a visual deterrent, and makes it difficult to pull off the thefts. In addition to the cage, the company recommends putting motion detectors on the exterior of houses and timed sensor lights inside.
Dunwoody police are investigating the business thefts, but have yet to make any arrests.
